THE EXPERIENCE

The Road Into Ossetia

Vladikavkaz offers the first glimpse: historic façades, tramlines and the Caucasus closing the horizon. From there, the road follows rivers into Fiagdon and Digoria, past ancient towers, high villages and Dargavs. Ossetia is encountered through its homes, tables, crafts and stories carried across generations.

DAY 01 - ARRIVAL

THE CITY FALLS BEHIND

Meet your private host at Vladikavkaz Airport and leave the city along a road climbing into the valleys. Urban streets give way to rivers, wooded slopes and ancient stone towers. Settle into your mountain hotel, then end the first evening with dinner and time to recover.

DAY 02 - TSEY & MAMISON

INTO THE HIGH COUNTRY

The road follows the Ardon River through Alagir Gorge, beneath the monumental figure of Uastyrdzhi and towards the blue waters of Zaramag Reservoir. In Tsey, the cable car rises above the forest, revealing snow-lined peaks and the vast scale of the high Caucasus.

DAY 03 - DIGORIA

WHERE VILLAGES HOLD THEIR GROUND

The route turns west into Digoria, crossing the narrow Akhsinta Canyon before climbing towards Galiat, Kamunta and Upper Zgid. Stone houses cling to the high slopes, paths disappear between weathered walls, and the silence reveals how deliberately these villages were built to endure the mountains.

DAY 04 - KARMADON & DARGAVS

THE WEIGHT OF MEMORY

The road enters Karmadon Gorge, where sheer rock walls and the traces of the glacier give the landscape unusual gravity. From there, continue to Dargavs: ancient stone crypts descending across the hillside, watchtowers above the valley, and centuries of history held in mountain silence.

DAY 05 - VLADIKAVKAZ

THE MOUNTAINS RETURN TO THE CITY

Return to Vladikavkaz, where the mountains reappear at the end of every avenue. Walk along Prospekt Mira through the historic centre, step inside a museum or gallery, and pause for a final lunch before the private transfer to the airport.

PRIVATE MASTERCLASS

THEATRE EVENING

Spend an evening inside a Vladikavkaz theatre, where music, language and movement bring Ossetian stories onto the stage. The performance offers a more emotional and immediate understanding of the region, shared with a local audience.

CURATED MUSEUM VISIT

Explore the collection with a guide who connects ceremonial clothing, domestic objects and archival photographs to the people who once used them. Each room adds context to the towers, villages and customs found across North Ossetia.

CULTURE

Beyond the Route

Beyond the mountain roads, three private encounters bring North Ossetia into sharper focus. Craft is understood through the hands, history through carefully preserved objects, and performance through the voices and movement of the contemporary stage.

THE JOURNEY

Stories Carried Home

Elena-Yekaterinburg

We travelled with our two children and were worried that five days of excursions might become tiring. Instead, the programme felt balanced and flexible. The guides made the history interesting for both adults and children, while longer drives were broken up with beautiful stops and relaxed lunches. Everyone remembers something different: the mountain villages, the towers, the cableway and the Ossetian pie masterclass. It was one of the rare family holidays that genuinely worked for all of us.

Anton-Kazan

My wife and I wanted to see North Ossetia privately, without joining a large group or following a rigid excursion schedule. The route gave us exactly that freedom. We explored Digoria, Tsey and Dargavs with knowledgeable local guides, stopped whenever a landscape caught our attention and spent the evenings in complete comfort. The organisation remained almost invisible, but everything happened at the right time. It felt personal, thoughtful and far removed from an ordinary packaged tour.

Marina-Nizhny Novgorod

Our family included three generations, so comfort and pacing mattered as much as the locations themselves. The team adjusted the schedule whenever necessary without making us feel that we were missing anything. Transfers were comfortable, the hotel was quiet, and every day combined sightseeing with enough time to rest. My parents were impressed by the history, our teenage son loved the mountain roads, and I appreciated how calmly everything was organised from arrival to departure.
